The Mille Miglia was an open-road endurance race which took place in Italy
twenty-four times from 1927 to 1957.
Mille Miglia (字義為Thousand Miles)
是於1927-1957年間在義大利舉辦的道路耐久賽
Cars were assigned numbers according to their start time. For example, the
1955 Moss/Jenkinson car left Brescia at 7:22 AM (see below).
車子的車號是以起跑時間來分配 No.722 就是在7:22 AM 起跑
In 1955, Mercedes made another attempt at winning the MM, this time with
careful preparation and a more powerful car, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR which
was based on the Formula One car (Mercedes-Benz W196), not the other sports
cars named Mercedes-Benz 300SL.
1955年賓士重新打造一台賽車以F1賽車W196為基礎(2496cc, 290.1匹馬力, 極速299.3km)
而非有著經典鷗翼車門設計 300SL, 300SLR由此誕生(2982cc, 300匹馬力, 極速300km)
After 10h07'48", Moss/Jenkinson arrived in Brescia in their Mercedes-Benz 300
SLR with the now famous #722, setting the event record at an average of
159.65 km/h which was fastest ever on this 1597km variant of the course, not
to be beaten in the remaining two years.
300 SLR在1955年奪下冠軍, 並以平均時速 159.65km完成比賽,
創下此賽史上最快完賽紀錄, 兩年後此紀錄才被打破
