State of the Platform
The launch of the PS3 has come and gone. Sony has unleashed the beast of a
system into the marketplace and now waits to see how it'll do. It certainly
has been a long time coming, especially with years of hype from the media
and Sony itself. Just like the PS2 before it, the PS3 sat poised to change
the world of digital entertainment forever, if one were to believe the hype.
首發來了又去,索尼把怪獸放進市場,看看牠能幹嘛。在媒體和索尼自己駭翻天之後,等
了超久東西才上市。跟劈死吐一樣,劈死三也保證要永遠改便世界的數位娛樂...如果你
相信他們的狂言的話。

Well, the PS3 is sitting in homes across American and little has changed.
While the PS3 showed a little muscle through a handful of strong launch
titles, it failed to capture the imagination of the public. More than a
month after it shipped, Sony's new console has yet to make the kind of impact
most were expecting. This isn't atypical of a system launch, but it still
serves to mention that the world of entertainment is still very much the same,
even with the introduction of the cell processor. This is not to say that
gamers across the globe didn't get excited however. Sony fans arrived en
masse to thousands of retail locations across the country braving chilly
conditions and long hours to score a unit at launch. Most walked away empty
handed. Strolling into a retailer today is every bit as dicey as it was on
launch day.
現在劈死三已經在美國人家裡坐著啦,但什麼都沒改變,它讓大眾的想像破滅,過了一個
月索尼根本沒造成預期中的震撼,雖然說主機首發史上這事很常見,但是世界的娛樂根本
沒被改變,就算有了Cell也一樣。

At present, the PS3 has potential more than it has anything else. As
deserving of recognition as the hardware truly is, Sony really needs to put
it to good use through compelling software. Games such as Resistance: Fall of
Man not withstanding, Sony ripped the gameplay for most PS3 games right out
of the last generation. While entertaining, a platform as powerful as the PS3
is capable of far more innovative software. This generation should see the
release of titles whose gameplay match the quality of the visuals. And the
PS3, with all its technical prowess and raw horsepower, is more than up to
the mask. But for now, it's just a hope shared among gaming enthusiasts.
Whether the PS3 delivers in the future is entirely up to Sony and developers.
現在這個狀況,劈死三的「潛力」比它的表現多上太多,不管硬體怎樣,索尼得用軟體好
好運用它才行的。除了全面對抗,索尼的所有次世代遊戲都嚴重缺乏遊戲性,要有點創新
的軟體才行。劈死三的未來全靠索尼和開發商的表現。

With few exceptions, the games available today need work. As previously
mentioned, Resistance is clearly the only must-have title available at
present. Behind it sits a handful of fun, yet somewhat formulaic entries like
Ridge Racer 7, Tiger Woods 07 and Call of Duty 3. These all showed a little
of what the system could do graphically, though Call of Duty 3 and a few
other games suffered from performance glitches. And while a hectic
development schedule is likely to blame, it nevertheless looks bad for the
system. After all, there's nothing worse than touting a system's power for
years only to have its performance bested by a weaker system, at least in
terms of raw computing power. But that's exactly what happened.
全面對抗是唯一值得買的遊戲。決勝時刻三和其他遊戲有一堆畫面瑕疵,雖然可能是因為
開發時間不夠,但是總之在劈死三上看起來很癟腳,被一個技術上來說硬體較差的主機在
畫面表現上海扁是一件再糟不過的事,但是這就是現在正發生的事!

This trend of future potential over present satisfaction continues with the
way the PS3 handles online gaming. It's no secret Sony fans wanted the PS3 to
mimic (or improve upon) the Xbox Live experience in terms of flexibility and
user-friendliness. While Sony may implement improved friend tracking and
messaging functionality in future updates, the service currently sags. It's
possible to access a friend's list and messaging options when touring the
Cross Media bar and listening to music, but not while in a game. And that's
exactly where gamers need it. Being able to see what a friend is playing and
join them (or invite them to something else) is a huge part of what makes the
Xbox 360 experience what it is. The PS3 will lag behind until it implements a
similar system.
劈死三迷想要劈死三模彷叉live的彈性和易使用性,但是雖然索尼承諾以後會更新,現在
卻爛得要命,打game的同時啥都不能做,無法取得好友名單也不能聽音樂,而這可是玩家
想要的,劈死三在弄出個類似的系統前都只能望塵莫及。

All of which sounds overly negative, of course. But this is just a quick look
at what's going on at present. The issues mentioned above, coupled with the
lack of scaling and shortage of units, did nothing to sell the PS3 as the
powerhouse next-generation system it truly is. Here's to hoping for a
brighter tomorrow.
這聽起來簡直是全面性的負面,廢話,不過這就是現況的簡述。只能希望明天會更好了。
