前驅車橫置引擎配置所用的變速箱(加差速器)叫transaxle
後驅車縱置引擎配置所用的變速箱叫transmission
定義嘛, 前者是把differential算在tranny裡面, 後者不包括在其中, 就是如此吧
所以你倘若看前驅車原廠的shop manual, 不會用transmission這個字眼

以下是定義, 源自 Auto Fundamentals 2000年版 (我以前的課本...)
The major differences between the transmission and transaxle
are the shape of the case and the placement of parts within the case.
The transaxle may also contain differential gears and may use two gears
or a drive chain to transfer power inside the transaxle. The obvious
external difference is the presence of two axles connecting the transaxle
to the front wheels.
btw, MR/RR也用transaxle...
